KISSmetrics is a data focused company. They have a mission to provide large and small companies with the tools and data they need to measure their users experiences.

The team at KISSmetrics and I were discussing the difference between cheap digital iron on stickers and high-end custom manufactured iron on stickers and we came up with this project. This sticker is the KISSmetrics logo, done in 5 Pantone colors on a prismatic Mylar stock and topped with a domed epoxy clear coat.

Iron On Sticker Material Series ?C Special Functions

In this final installment of our ongoing series about iron on sticker materials and uses, we are addressing materials with special functionality, in particular, See-Through Film and Super Adhesive iron on stickers.

See-Through Film
See-Through Film is an adhesive-backed white vinyl that is perforated with round, evenly spaced holes. The advantage of See-Through Film is that it creates one-way visibility. From the outside looking in, the images printed on it appear solid and cannot be seen through. When viewed from the inside the window will appear tinted but is otherwise completely see-through.

See-Through Film is available in both 50/50 and 70/30. The number designations relate to the perforation pattern. The first number represents the amount of printable space (the surface area) while the second number refers to the amount of open space (the holes). For example, 50/50 means that 50 percent of the material is printable, and 50 percent is perforation; 70/30 means that 70 percent is printable, and 30 percent is perforated. 50/50 will be more see-though than 70-30.

This material has a variety of potential uses. It can be applied to vehicles, storefront windows, and display cases. In addition to its value as an advertising tool, it helps reduce heat and glare from the sun and enhances security and privacy.

See-Through Film is weatherproof and is intended for outdoor application. It is easy to apply, can be removed in seconds, and won??t leave adhesive residue. You can expect 1-3 years of durability. Be aware that you should avoid using See-Through Film on opaque surfaces. Also, we cannot add lamination to this material because it prevents it from being see-through.

Super Adhesive
Our regular white vinyl stickers will adhere to practically any surface including glass, metal, wood, plastic, and more. Occasionally though, you may find yourself needing a product with even more adhesive capabilities. Those are the times that our Super Adhesive White Vinyl will be useful. Super Adhesive stickers are ideal for surfaces like steel storage containers or drums, dumpsters, utility poles, heavy machinery, outdoor equipment, toolboxes, recycling bins, storage sheds, farm equipment, and more. Like our regular stickers, these are excellent for outdoor use. They are weatherproof and can withstand UV rays, rain, and snow and offer 1 to 5 years of durability.

Be aware that Super Adhesive stickers will leave adhesive residue on surfaces. You should also avoid placing them on painted indoor walls, as they may damage the paint when removed.

How does heat transfer vinyl work?

Heat transfer vinyl can be described as a special kind of vinyl which could be cut on Silhouette machines. These can then be transferred onto fabrics like clothing, bags and pillow covers to name a few. If you are new to the field, then keep your beginning projects a simple one. Work with something easy. An example would be a T-shirt. This wearable cloth has big open areas and can be easily ironed. There is another plus point as well: you can verify new designs on economical pieces of cloth prior to moving on to something expensive.

You need a few supplies before you start. You will require heat transfer vinyl, the fabric where you will transfer, thin cotton fabric and a hot iron. An important aspect to keep in mind is when you transfer the design, your created design must be in a mirror format. The transfer is made easier if there is no text in the design. Be sure that the design must be flipped horizontally if there is text.

Make the design in the computer first and put every element of the design together in the software. Group them and click ??Mirror Left?? or ??Mirror Right??. Select the original design and delete it. Only the mirrored image is important now.

When the mirrored design is ready, click ??Send to Silhouette?? control. Change settings o the Heat Transfer Vinyl. It should be either flocked or smooth. The former is somewhat fuzzy. For sharper designs, select Smooth from Heat Transfer Material.

Be aware that the machine manufacturer may not be the best adviser when it comes to printing. The factory may advise you to select a certain blade setting. This setting may not be suitable at all. Another divergence with the manufacturer is that it will tell you to cut it without a mat. It is suggested that you should cut with the mat. The HTV’s shiny side must be face down before you start to make the cut.

Make a test cut first before you make a final one. After cutting it, unload from the machine and weed it. Leave design on clear backing. In case you need to cut design pieces apart, so that you want to properly position them on the shirt, now is the time to do it. Lay shirt flat on ironing board and position the design on the place you want. Lay extra piece of cloth and press hot iron for a minute.

There are 3 kinds of colored iron on transfers can be chosen:
1: Acrylic paint drawing; acrylic paint is painted in the hand-painted clothing, the use of special additive paint, using iron?on transfers at high temperature, the moisture evaporates after drying, so the paint program should be aware, in order to make strokes natural convergence, to achieve the desired effect.
2: Textile pigment; textile fabric paint used specially in screen printing. There are some inadequacies in drawing on hand-painted Costumes: the use of special harmonic agents to reconcile the pigments, the use of iron to heat high temperature baking. The adhesive force of the textile pigment is relatively small, and the improper operation is very easy to fade. The hand-painted drawing process is troublesome, and it is relatively time-consuming and laborious.
3: Hand-painted special pigments. Hand-painted pigments are followed by the popularity of the hand-painted DIY in the 2000. A new type of pigment appear, widely used in hand-painted shoes, hand-painted T-shirts, hand-painted hand-painted humanoid pillow, wallet, hat, hand-painted clothing, clothing color repair, wall painting etc.. Its performance is outstanding, it is easy to use and is widely used by DIY enthusiasts. The production process of 1, the preliminary design pattern, pencil sketch on the cloth, pay attention to the overall layout pattern; 2, use the brush to outline the pattern of the line; 3, the water does not fade pigment in the pattern painted colors, color can add a little water, do depth distribution;
4, according to different color painted patterns, also can make color layer effect;
5, crochet, after the color, design the edge of hook again, there is a clear pattern;
6, pattern setting treatment;
7, put in a cool place to dry or dry with a hair dryer can be.
Attention: the material of the material is different, the difficulty of color is different. Some of the texture is too much, if the color is too much, it is easy to halo, Ming and Ming is a straight line, and finally become a caterpillar feeling. According to the materials of different natures, decide how much water to mix color and simple line drawing is not water, the direct use of mixing liquid is good; if that kind of feeling in painting gouache, when a little far away from the sideline to natural color will be extended.
